Joel Babatunde Babalola was born on 19th August, 1954 at Ipoti-Ekiti.  He is a Professor of Educational Management in the Department of Educational Management, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. He holds Ph.D from the same University of Ibadan in 1988. Professor Babalola is a highly experienced and exposed professional teacher who has taught at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education. He started his university teaching career as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Educational Management, University of Ibadan in 1986.  Since then, he has moved up the ladder from Lecturer II (1989-1991), through Lecturer I (1992-1995) to Senior Lecturer (1995 to 2001) and to grade of a Professor in 2001.  Along his career path, he served as the Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) in the University of Ibadan between 1991 and 1993, Lecturer at the University of Zambia, Lusaka, Zambia in 1997, Head of Educational Planning and Policy Unit, University of Ibadan (1999-2001), Acting Head of Department of Educational Management, University of Ibadan (2001–2003) and a Visiting Professor and the founding Head of Department of Educational Management at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria (2006). Professor Babalola was the Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, Nigeria between 2009 and 2011.

He has served as External Examiner in more than 20 universities both inside and outside Nigeria.  He served as a Programme Evaluator and External Examiner in the University of Botswana, Gaborone.  Professor Babalola is actively engaged in community services.

He has consulted for governmental and non-governmental organizations in and outside Nigeria. These include the British Council [1997], Zambia Education Rehabilitation Project and the World Bank, [1997],  Social Science Research Council and Association of African Universities on research agenda for African Higher Education [2001], UBEC Basic Education Costing [2008- 2010], ETF Tertiary Education Funding [2008], UNESCO-IICBA [2008], Niger SUBEC-UNICEF project on militancy and education [2010], UNICEF/Oyo State Education Strategic Plan [2010], UBEC–FTS [2010], Trust Africa [2010], and African Union-ACALAN [2011], Consultant [Higher Education Resourcing] for Ekiti State’s Education Summits [2011], Consultant [Funding Framework though PPP] for Oyo State’s Education Summits [2011]. He is presently a member of the Oyo State School Management Board of Alalubosa Community High School, Ibadan. He has won a number of fellowships and awards for several research and professional activities both inside and outside Nigeria. Such awards include the Association of African Universities (AAU) fellowships (first in 1995 and secondly in 1999), IDRC/DSC research award and Salzburg travel and training award (2000). He is a member of three professional associations at local and international levels. He has 130 publications and 10 academic/professional awards from inside and outside Nigeria.
